T-Rex STEAMers: Unearth a Story (Kids 8-11)
Join us for Unearth a Story! Two whole month of fun and learning here at the library! T-Rex STEAMers is an awesome educational program for kids ages 8 through 11 years old.
We'll have a whole month-June-learning about the science of archaeology. Archaeology is the the scientific study of past human life and culture through discovery and examination of material remains, such as artifacts, architecture, and landscapes. In other words, the study of things that people who lived long ago have left behind. Each week will be a new adventure so remember to wear your fedora! We'll also have a "dig box" in the children's department so budding archaeologists can learn and practice their dig skills.
During the week of July 4th, we will take a break and celebrate our nation's 250th birthday with a special art craft on July 2nd.
Finally, in July, we'll move onto the extinct critters that walked the Earth a long time ago-Paleontology! We'll discover prehistoric life—including dinosaurs, plants, and microbes—through fossilized remains, using geology and biology to understand Earth's history, ecosystems, and evolution. Again, you'll get to spend some time in the dig box with your own trowel and brush, looking for fossils and other remains of ancient Earth.
Our T-Rex STEAMer program is free and open to the public, but Registration IS required to attend and it is limited to ten children. Children MUST be at least 8 years old to participate and an adult must remain with their child(ren) for the duration of the program. Look for the "Register Now" button at the top of this page, click on it, and fill out the necessary information. You won't be able to register for the whole summer at once. Just one program at a time and next week's program will be open for registration as soon as one ends. Also, please wear clothes that you don't mind getting a little dirty if you plan on spending time in the dig box.
This should be a really fun summer, so get ready for some STEAM time with dinos!
