The Craft House, IFL's Kids Arts & Crafts Club

THE CRAFT HOUSE HAS BEEN PAUSED FOR SUMMER READING AND WILL  RESUME ON SEPTEMBER 3RD, 2022.

The Craft House is an in-house arts & craft program for kids aged 6 through 12. Together, we'll explore the wondrous world of arts & crafts while we work on some cool projects of our own! We'll also learn a little about the great artists that lived long ago and the ones that are still with us!  All of the materials that are needed to complete the project will be provided by the library. The Craft House will take place on Saturday afternoons at 1 PM.

We kindly ask that those over 3 year of age to wear a mask while in the library. If you don't have a mask, you can pick one up at the desk in the Children's Department. Thanks for staying safe and healthy and also keeping our kids and staff that way, too!

  • Let's start the fall out easy! Today's lesson for our very first episode of the Craft House is an easy fall decoration you can keep for yourself or gift it to a loved one. My inspiration came from a painting by Vincent Van Gogh, "Wheatfield with Crows"- Van Gogh's very last painting before he passed away in 1890. Let's celebrate fall with Van Gogh today! (The book, “Portrait of an artist: Vincent Van Gogh “ written by Lucy Brownridge and published by Wide Eyed Edition , 2019, can be found in our non-fiction collection along with many others about Van Gogh).

  • Today in the Craft House, we're going to work on a fall craft since fall arrived just yesterday! You can use your imagination and turn this yarn pumpkin into a scary Halloween Jac-O-lantern, too! I'll give you some ideas about other decorations for Halloween and even costumes with some of the books from our collections!

  • It's the last day of September. Tomorrow starts the fun month of October! To remember this day, let's make a leaf bookmark together. The leaves are still somewhat green, so while you read this winter, you can remember the warmth of summer when you look at your bookmark! I'll also showcase some Fall and Halloween craft books that we have here at the library. Make sure to check out the Halloween book display upstairs, too, as there are lots of ideas for the holiday. It'll be here before we know it!

  • Today we'll learn a little about sculpture using a...book!! Yes!. Let's make a pumpkin out of a book. I'll show you how to do that the easiest way possible. It's nice way to decorate using those old books that you just can't part with.

  • We'll do some catching up this week with two crafts in one day. So sorry that we missed last week, but it was an emergency closing and I was not able to do the video from home. But!!! Here we are now!

    To get you ready for Halloween, I have a Pumpkin Candle craft and a cool Halloween Suncatcher craft all made from things you'll find around the house or at the Dollar Store! Enjoy!

  • Well, it's our last Craft House before Halloween! Today, we're making a candy corn wreath for your door. It's an inexpensive project and a fairly easy one, too!. Next week, we'll get back to normal with a nice art project. Until then, have a Happy Halloween!!

  • A cute little work of art for your table on Thanksgiving!! Let's make a little turkey with some polymer clay today! Easy, but fun!!

  • It's our last Craft House before Thanksgiving. We'll make some Glitter Leaves from an old book today. I thought that they would be pretty on your Thanksgiving table!! Have a great holiday everyone!! See you in December!!
