Friend Speed-Dating
Friend Speed-Dating
*This program is for people in their 20s and 30s only*
As the Adult Services Librarian (and a person in this age group), I often hear how hard it is to meet people in your 20s and 30s. I hear you, and I get it.
This is a program that has had some success at other libraries, and because I’ve heard this frustration from others in this age group, I’m willing to give it a shot. The idea is similar to speed-dating (sit down across from a stranger, chat for a few minutes, switch strangers when the bell dings, and hope to leave having made at least one meaningful connection), except the end goal is friendship. We’ll start out with the chair-swapping, timed introductions and small talk (ice breaker prompts provided but not mandatory) and then you’ll be free to break off and play games, make crafts, or just chat with others.
This could be a really great program, but we NEED people to make it a success. Take a leap out of your comfort zone and come have some fun. Best-case scenario, you’ll meet some awesome new people. Worst-case scenario… we can all laugh at how uncomfortable it is together.
Registration is STRONGLY encouraged, and there is a space to enter your age since it is relevant to the program. This information will not be seen by anyone but the librarian in charge of the program and will only be used to make sure we stick to the target age group for the program.
