Welcome to Adventure begins at your Library our fun summer reading program!
There are few things to remember if you plan on attending any event or program:
- All events and programs can be found on the Event Calendar (In a different tab on this website). There is a short description of each event and program, age ranges, and registration links if you click on the program on the day you would like to attend.
- Not all events and programs require registration. You do NOT need to register for Tiny Tot Explorers on Tuesday mornings and our children's Saturday programs. Be weather aware though on Tuesday mornings as Explorers is held at Mack Park. If it is raining, the program will take place in the Community Room on the Second Floor of the Library at 10:30 AM.
- If you are attending any of the other programs or events that DO require registration, please remember that we are doing registration week by week this year. Registration opens a little more than a week before each program or event and closes at 1 AM the morning of the event so we can prepare crafts (And order enough food if we are serving snacks or lunch). We can usually accommodate a few people who haven't registered, but please be aware that we will first provide for those that have registered for the program.
- It is very important to register for our 3-5 year old programs as they are the most popular. Adventure Amigos on Monday mornings at 10:30 and Preschool Adventurers on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 require registration as we have space limitations in the children's department. They are the same program, just different names so people won't be confused when registering. If you go to register your child and registration is full, please try the other program (Monday-full? Try Wednesday night!). If they both are full, please email the library (iflkidsfun@gmail.com) to be put on a waiting list if someone cancels. Please accept our apologies, but we can only reasonably accomodate twenty children and their parents in our storyroom and craft area. All the more reason to register early.
- If you do not have access to the internet to register for the programs, there are two ways you can register. Please call the children's department at 724-465-8841 x 6 to register or stop in the department and register with a librarian. As with online registration, you will not be able to register earlier than a week before the program or the day of the event or program. You cannot register for the whole summer at one time.
- If you missed the Kickoff Party, please stop in the children's department and pick up a family summer reading goodie bag. There are many fun activities, a paper reading log for the Great Reading Adventure, a Road Trip Challenge with a great prize, and a schedule of all our fun summer events and programs in each bag. Please, only one bag per family.
We will also have a 2024 summer travel/camp/hiking/biking/enjoying the outdoors photo contest on our Facebook Page. Please look for the pinned post and if you like, add your picture in the comments. The photo with the most "Likes" will win a big US National Parks Puzzle!
***A very important reminder: The Great Reading Adventure is a separate program from Adventure begins at your Library. If you would like to participate, please click here: https://indianafreelibrary.org/programs-events/youth-programs/reading-log.html We also have paper logs at the desk in children's for those that do not have access to the internet. You can use these to keep track of your minutes, turn them in to us, and we will log your minutes for you.
