History Bites: Seasoned with Story: The Flavors of Black America

Tuesday, February 17, 2026
12:00 pm1:00 pm

Step into kitchens past and present, where flavors carry memories, culture, and resilience. This talk explores the rich stories behind African American cooking, from everyday meals to celebratory dishes.

Seasoned with Story traces the journey of Black foodways across American history—from culinary knowledge brought from Africa to the inventive, soulful cooking developed under enslavement and beyond. We’ll explore gardens, kitchens, and communal tables, discovering how ingredients, techniques, and shared meals reflect creativity, resilience, and community. Along the way, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how African American cuisine has shaped—and continues to shape—the nation’s food culture.
