Join us at the Library for Color Our World 2025 IFL Summer Reading Program!
There’s lots of fun going on at the library this summer! We’ll have all kinds of things for kids of all ages to do for two whole months! Take a look at what we have going on this year!
The Great Reading Adventure starts on June 1st and ends on August 2nd . This is a separate program from Color Our World. You can read to win prizes with this one! The two top readers from each category will win bigger prizes, but we think everyone who reads is a winner, so everyone will get a prize!
Color Our World 2025 IFL Summer Reading starts on Monday, June 9th @ Blue Spruce Park, Pavilion #3 from 11 AM-2 PM. We will have several different activities for kids of all ages. There will be members of organizations from our little town there to show you what they do for all of us throughout the year. Some presenters will also have activities and other fun things to work on that day. We will be providing snacks and refreshments for the afternoon and the pavilion is right beside the playground, so wear clothes that you can romp around in! We will also have an easy craft and a couple games on hand so that everyone has fun things to do.
Weekly Children’s and Teen Programs during the Summer
• Mondays-Creative Kids at 11 AM in the Children’s Department for 3-5-year-old children (Starts June 16th). Registration is required for this program and will be limited to 20 children. Miss Barb and Miss Rose will have fun stories, songs, and an easy craft in each hour-long program (There will NOT be a program on Monday, June 9th).
• Tuesdays-Rainbow Rascals will be at 10:30 AM and will be held under the Oaks at the Community Gardens @ Mack Park for newborns up to 2 years of age (Starts June 10th). You don’t have to register for this one and there is no limit on attendees. Please bring a blanket or chairs and dress in clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty! Also, keep an eye on the weather! If the weather turns nasty, the program will be moved to the children’s department at the library. Keep an eye out on Facebook, Instagram, or this website for any cancellations due to weather.
• Wednesdays-Kid Zone is happening at 1 PM in the Community Room on the Second Floor and is a program for 6-11-year-old kids (Starts June 11th). Your children MUST be at least 6 years old to participate and registration is required. There is a 20-kid limit also as parents or another guardian must sit in with their children during the program.
• Thursdays-Tech Troop starts at 1 PM in the Community Room on the Second Floor (Starts June 12th). This is a more advanced STEAM program for 8-11-year-old children and they MUST be at least 8 years old to participate in this program. There is also a 15-kid limit. Parents or guardians must remain in the room with the kids for the program (No programs on June 19th or July 31st)
• Saturdays will be as usual. All of our programs for Saturday are on the Event Calendar on this website. Please check for the program times, age range, and location as there are several programs on Saturdays. None of our Children's Department Saturday programs require registration and all are free and open to the public.
The Color Our World Summer Reading Wrap-Up Party will be on Thursday, July 31st at the Waterworks Conservation Area from 11 AM-1 PM. Everyone is welcome, but you must register for the afternoon. Our favorite educators from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission will be there to show us how to fish! We’ll have fun with Backyard Bass and make colorful Fish Prints on t-shirts. Refreshments and cake will be provided so that we can properly say goodbye to summer reading.
**For anyone interested in additional fishing activities today...You can meet the educators and Miss Val at Blue Spruce Park at 3 PM where we will have a "Fishing Tent" set up at the Pier and actually put a line in the water! Hopefully, everyone will catch a fish that afternoon like we did last year! Bait and tackle will be provided by the Fish and Boat Commission for this fun event. Refreshments will also be available as it’s usually pretty warm that last day of July. For this event, please wear appropriate clothing and shoes. I would also bring sunscreen and wear a hat.
Some additional notes on Summer Reading at the Library
- All of our summer programs are free and open to the public. Some require registration, but none require a library card. But! Why not get a library card while you're here? They are free now thanks to a very generous donation from a kind local family in memory of a loved one who loved our library!
- As stated, the Great Reading Adventure is a separate program from Color Our World. This is a reading challenge for patrons who love to read and will be able to win prizes for reading over the summer. To participate, please click on the Great Reading Challenge picture, then follow the instructions given on the page to create a Reading Log for you and/or your children. Keep track of your reading minutes to earn prizes at the end of summer.
- Many programs and activities require registration because we have limited space at the library. Others because we need to know how many people are coming because we are providing food and/or crafts. You can find your program registration on the Event Calendar on this website under Programs and Events. Find the program you’d like to attend and click on it. It will take you to the main information page for that program and there will be a “Register” button at the top. Please fill in the required information. Also, take note of the location of each program as not all take place at the library. Some will be at Mack Park, Blue Spruce Park, or Waterworks Conservation Area.
One last note: Parents of children under the age of 12 MUST remain with their children while a particular program is going on. There will be plenty of space in our Community Room for parents to sit and help their kids with the activity or socialize with other parents. One of the goals of having these programs and this rule is not just so kids of the same age and interests can get together, but also so their parents can get to know other parents in our community. That’s why our area is known as the Community Room!
Please join your Library for fun and learning this summer with Color Our World!
