Book Babies

This delightful program introduces your baby, birth to 24 months, to the sounds of language and music through simple stories, songs, and rhymes. Each week, we will showcase a brand new easy picture book that has recently joined our collection! This virtual program will be posted to the IFL Website before 3 PM each Monday.

  • Our first Book Babies!! Today we'll learn a little about books when we read one of our brand new pictures book here at the library, "I Am a Bird," by Dana Walrath, Jaime Kim, and published by Atheneum Books for Young Readers. We'll also sing a cute little fingerplay about birds.

  • September is winding down and a new month is almost upon us! Today's book is about being kind. "A Small Kindness," by Stacy McAnulty, illustrated by Wendy Leach, and published by RP Kids out of Philadelphia. And...Let's sing today!! We'll learn, "I am So Happy," together.

  • Let's read about Harvest Time today! The new book I've chosen is "The Little Gardener," by Jan Gerardi and published by Random House. It tells the story of a little girl who plants a garden, takes care of it, and then harvests the vegetables to eat! After our story, we'll listen to another one that's a classic story about making food from your harvest. "The Little Red Hen," will tell her story about planting wheat and baking bread with no help from her friends! There's a lesson in the story about why you should always be willing to help a friend who asks for help when doing something. Especially when it has anything to do with food!

  • Today we'll learn a little about manners. Words, like please and thank you, that you say when you would like help with something or when some does something nice for you. We'll read the new book, "Give Please a Chance," by Bill O'Reilly and James Patterson, published by Jimmy Patterson Books. Be warned!! I'm going to sing again today!! :) :)

  • A Halloween story for the Book Babies! Let's read, The Little Kitten by Nicola Killen, a Paula Wiseman Book, published by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers. Afterwards, we'll learn the Five Pumpkins rhyme just in time for Halloween.

  • Another story to get ready for Halloween! I love Halloween, Mainly because it's such a fun day's also my birthday! Yay!! This week let's read a Halloween story with a chicken in it! Minerva Louise on Halloween by Janet Morgan Stoeke and published by Dutton Children's Books. Let's see what that silly little hen thinks of Halloween!

  • October is gone and a new month is here! Today we'll read some poetry! One, brand new book from Chris Tougas, Josee Bisaillon, and published by Kids Can Press. Then, let's explore some poetry written by Mister Roger's in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.

  • Our book today is about birds! Let's learn about lots of different birdies while we learn the alphabet!! This new book is "Mrs. Peanuckle's Bird Alphabet," by Mrs. Peanuckle, art by Jessie Ford, and published by Macmillan. A cute little fingerplay about Little Birdie is also included today!

  • Let's sing about turkeys today! I found a cute video on You Tube made by the Learning Station people. Then, we'll read a story about being thankful...Thankful- a little bunny who doesn't know how to enjoy the fall season or the Thanksgiving holiday because he's so Groany-Grumpy. The book is, "Simply Thankful," by Rosie Greening, illustrated by Clare Fennel, and published by Make Believe Ideas. It's a brand new book and will be on the shelf by the end of the week!

  • Getting ready for Thanksgiving!! We'll read a short story about the history behind Thanksgiving. Then, we'll read a funny story about Thanksgiving and sing the song from the book! The book we'll read from is "Over the River: A Turkey's Tale," by Derek Anderson, based on the song by Lydia Maria Child and published by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone!

  • It's finally December!! Time for some holiday book reading! Today, we'll read Max's Christmas. A funny board book written by Rosemary Wells and published by Dial Books for Young Readers. We'll sing today, too! A cute song that has a fun "Santa" way of learning colors by Easy Kids Songs and available to watch again and again on YouTube.
