Stories and Stars
Welcome to our new STEAM program, Stories and Stars!! This isn't just your ordinary storytime. It's also a star gazing club! This club is for kids of all ages who love science and technology. We'll meet on our Facebook page or this website at 3 PM on Wednesday's. In this short program, we'll read stories about stars, galaxies, constellations, and planets. After we read a story, we might do an easy STEAM craft together and also, look for the stars or planets that may be active during the week of our program using an app called Star Walk 2. It's actually a star gazing app that you can download from Google Play onto your device. We hope you enjoy the new club and we'll even work in some real star gazing events when the weather cooperates for us!! If you have any questions, please email me, Val, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Have fun out there!
Let's talk about the star, Vega today! We'll not only learn about Vega, but also our solar system. We'll also read, "Draw Me a Star," by Eric Carle and published by Philomel Books. Have fun!
This week, we'll read "Star Shapes," by Peter Malone and published by Raincoast Books. When our story is over, I will show you how to load a star gazing app on your smart device (iPad or iPhone), and look for stars and constellations that we talked about in our book!
Today, lets read an old favorite about stars! "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," retold by Iza Trapani and published by Charlesbridge Publishers. We'll sing the song, too! For our star gaze time, let's look for the constellation, Cassiopeia and the big, red planet Mars. Both are very prominent in our night sky this week.
Mythology and the Stars has become Stories and Stars! Each week, we'll read a star story and go star gazing on our special star app on our big smartboard. This week ends on Halloween-October 31st. This Halloween is special because we will have a Blue Moon. What's that, you ask? I'll tell you the story. I'll also tell you another story about the moon. This one is written by Shulamith Levey Oppenheim, illustrated by Cyd Moore, and published by Boyds Mill Press. I hope you enjoy our storytime about Earth's only satellite!
