A special celebration-infused memorial will be held for Kitty Hood on Saturday, April 13. Dr. Kitty Hood passed July 27 of last year and was a community member involved extensively with the Indiana Free Library as well as being on the Indiana Borough Council for several years. Dr. Hood’s husband, Michael Hood, former Dean of Fine Arts at IUP, is heading the plans for the day along with family members.
The public is invited to activities beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home at 965 Philadelphia St. in Indiana. At the Home, Kitty’s ashes will be placed on a horse-drawn hearse while family members address the crowd.
The hearse will lead a funeral parade joining by a “Second Line.” This group, a New Orleans tradition, will consist of a lively jazz band provided by IUP along with family and community members. The massed group will parade up Water Street and stop at the Borough Building where Kitty spent much time as a Council member. Special guests will address the public before the procession resumes, moving on to the Indiana Free Library. Arriving at a roughly estimated time of 12:45 p.m., additional words will be offered before the cremains are lifted from the hearse.
Those donating $25 or more to the Indiana Free Library in Kitty's memory will be invited to a reception, hosted by the Library and the Hood Family, to be held the afternoon of April 13. Invitations will be sent with additional details.
