Where The Wild Things Are - Family Book Club

Although written fifty years ago by Maurice Sendak this award-winning picture book is enjoyed equally by children and adults.  Using minimal text but wonderful illustrations Sendak creates a mischievous  boy named Max who is sent to his room without dinner.  Max uses his imagination to transform his room into a forest inhabited by unusual creatures.  These wild things--with their mismatched parts and giant eyes--manage somehow to be scary-looking without being scary; at times they're downright hilarious. It is through this adventure that Max learns a valuable lesson about the importance of family.  We'll read the story, pointing out parts that are appealing, before having fun with many activities. Copies of this book are available for loan but it is not necessary to read the book prior to the program.  Geared to ages 8 and up.
