Author Reading: New American Humor by Jim O'Loughlin
Like to laugh? With his book, Dean Dean Dean Dean, Jim O'Loughlin adds a touch of the absurd to the proud tradition of American humor writing established by Mark Twain and added to by authors such as James Thurber, Woody Allen, Steve Martin and, most recently, David Sedaris. And here's another twist: Jim gives the tradition an update by writing in the twenty-first-century literary genre of flash fiction!
The collection includes some experimental pieces as well as more traditionally told narratives that have been published in such literary journals as La Petite Zine, North American Review and McSweeney's Internet Tendency.
Jim O'Loughlin is an associate professor of English at the University of Northern Iowa, where he teaches courses in American literature, creative writing, and digital humanities. He is the director of the long-running Final Thursday Reading Series and Final Thursday Press. He lives in Cedar Falls, Iowa, with his wife and children. Dean Dean Dean Dean is his first collection.
